How to find the best deals in the AirAsia sales

While AirAsia is an airline, it’s website doesn’t really act like one. If you search for flights on it, you’ll also be given a whole bunch of options that aren’t just flights. You can book hotels, holiday packages, insurance and more.

What days of the week to fly to get the best price

Looking at a few different AirAsia routes from Australia, we’ve generally found departing on a weekday will yield you the best price.

But that doesn’t mean you’ll never find a bargain on a weekend. The cheapest days to fly tend to be an average, but occasionally prices are low across the board. Or the difference between a weekend and weekday departure is negligible enough that it’s worth paying for.

We love when a site has a calendar option and using this is the easiest way to find the cheapest days to fly with AirAsia. And with a bit of flexibility, you can certainly score a deal.

When you click on the “Depart” field, a calendar will automatically open. And when you select your preferred month, the cheapest travel days will highlight themselves green. If you’re flexible on when you travel, just keep browsing through the months until you can find the lowest fare.

How far in advance to book an AirAsia sale

Luckily, not too far at all.

Unlike other budget airlines like Jetstar, AirAsia’s sales tend to have super wide travel windows and are usually available for travel starting immediately. So, whether you book in advance or not, you may not find you’re saving a whole lot.

It’s the same deal when there isn’t a sale on too.

We wanted to test this out just to make sure, so we looked at two routes here: Sydney to Kuala Lumpur and Perth to Jakarta.

For flights from Western Australia, we found whether the plane is departing in six weeks or in six months, tickets were about the same price: $199-$215. There was actually more availability at the cheaper price for flights with an earlier departure.

It was the same care with flights from the East Coast. No matter what month we looked at, we were always able to find flights between Sydney and Kuala Lumpur from $279.
