Trips to Northern Queensland just got more affordable.
In a slightly extended Jetstar Friday sale, you can now score Cairns flights from as low as $79 each way. While not an official Friday Fare Frenzy deal, it is quite similar to the longer sales the airline sometimes offers at the end of the week. This sale started early on Friday and runs until midnight on Saturday, 6 January (if it doesn’t sell our prior).

All prices are for travel each way. Return trips are roughly double, but Jetstar does sometimes charge less for the second leg.
When is this cheap Cairns flight available?
January and February, 2024.
Although it is the height of the wet season, it’s still well worth a visit during this time. Not only are the flights cheap, but hotel prices tend to be a bit lower, too. For example, we’re seeing multiple hotel options on Booking.com for $100 or less.
The summer months also are a great time to visit the Daintree Rainforest, where a bit of rain adds to the magic of the area.
What’s included in the price?
As with all Jetstar sales, you’ll just get the guarantee of a seat on the plane and a carry-on bag up to 7kg. If you’d like, you can also get a checked bag, selected seat and meals/drinks on the plane for an additional cost.
Can I get any frequent flyer points?
No. Jetstar’s base fare doesn’t allow you to collect any frequent flyer points. If you do need extras though, it may be worth upgrading to the Plus fare, where you can collect Qantas Frequent Flyer points.
Overall, how good is this sale?
While not as strong as the Black Friday sale, which saw flights to Cairns as low as $62 each way (when purchasing a return ticket), we’d say these prices are pretty standard to Northern Queensland during a sale, and are definitely cheaper than the regular fare.
Compared to Virgin Australia, you’ll be paying about 28% less for your flight.

Head over to Jetstar’s site before midnight on 6 January to book. There’s no promo code required to get these prices, so if you do have another site or travel agency that you prefer, you should be able to get those prices there too.
