Three bargains on three continents.
We’re well and truly into autumn and with the temperatures going down, it’s only natural for your want or a holiday to go up. Luckily, there’s plenty of affordable options in April.
Before summer in the northern hemisphere and before winter in the south, it’s a shoulder season which means demand is down along with flight prices. These are our three picks of cheap places to travel in April.
3 cheapest places to travel in April 2024
Vietnam
Luckily with Vietnam, we’ve found that while April is a cheap time, that doesn’t mean it’s the worst time. April is just before the wet season rains start. So, you may get some rainier days than if you were travelling during the Australian winter, but not nearly as much as if you travelled from May to November.
We’re finding flights to Ho Chi Minh City in April going for less than $300 return. (Yes, technically $299 is less!). That’s less than the price of flying across Australia and it’s about twice as far.
And flights will definitely be the most expensive part of your journey.
How cheap will it be once I get to Vietnam?
- Hotels: Expect to find mid-range hotels for around $20 a night in Ho Chi Minh City or around $25 in Hanoi.
- Tours: Explore the Cu Chi Tunnels from about $30 ot take a boat tour along the Mekong River for $35.
- Food: Experience Vietnamese’s best food on the street, where you’ll pay $2-$4 for most meals. A beer will usually cost around $1.
Have we been to Vietnam in April?
Yes! And we thought it was a great time to visit. There was little rain on our trip, which sent us to Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, Hoi An and Da Nang.
Denmark
Scandinavia is not known as being a cheap destination… unless you travel in April. We’re finding flights to Copenhagen are available from just $944 return. At that price, yo ucan only fly from Melbourne, but there were still very well-priced flights going from Sydney and Perth.
What we love about Denmark as a destination is that it’s a great stepping stone to other Scandinavian nations (since it’s connected to Sweden via a bridge), or down into continental European countries like Germany.
How cheap will it be once I get to Denmark?
Now, once you’re there unfortunately it won’t be that cheap. But, hopefully the savings from the low fare will certainly help.
- Hotels: You’ll be able to book a stay just outside the city centre for less than $150 per night, but you want to stay central Copenhagen for about $200.
- Attractions: A visit to the iconic Tivoli Gardens will set you back $93 with a rides pass while the Statens Museum for Kunst (Copenhagen’s gallery) will be about $29 for entry.
- Food: Expect to pay about $30-$35 for a meal at an inexpensive restaurant. Of course, you can’t leave Denmark without having a Smorrebord or hot dogs, which are both affordable options (depending on where you get them).
