Oman

From pristine beaches that sea turtles call home in Ras Al Jinz to the stunning white mosques of Muscat, and the unbelievably blue waters of Wadi Shab to the sprawling Nizwa Fort, uncrowded Oman has plenty to see.

An off-the-beaten-track destination that’s very much on our bucket list, it’s considered to be one of the safest destinations in the middle East. In fact, it’s one of just two (Qatar being the other) country that Smart Traveller doesn’t have any concerns about.

Sure, it may be quite warm in Oman during the summer months, but its beaches and swimming holes beckon exploration and are the perfect way to cool off.

Laos

Lucky Perth residents can score cheap flights to the Southeast Asian nation of Laos, one often forgotten on trips around Indochina. Tucked between Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and China, this mountainous country has lush, green rice fields, stunning waterfalls forming natural swimming pools and plenty of temples waiting to be explored.

Byron Bay

Sure, the weather may not be the best in in July, but it will still be quiet and peaceful without the summer tourists crowds. Plus, accommodation will be much cheaper as well, without the demand. And, you’ll be able to get into all those hard-to-book restaurants.

What really makes it cheap though, is the abundance of flight deals available. Whether you’re looking for a deal with Virgin Australia or Jetstar, lately Byron Bay is the cheapest place to travel with each. With Virgin, flights are usually starting at $55 to the NSW north coast holiday hotspot, while with Jetstar, they can be as cheap as $40.
