When can you travel?

There’s two travel windows with this sale. Choose from July to September, 2024 and January to March. 2025.

We love that there’s two pretty decently sized windows to travel as it gives plenty of time to visit during the summer tourist season and during ski season.

While Japan can get quite hot in summer, it does mean that you’ll be able to see the stunning urban gardens when they’re at their peak. You can also hop on a domestic flight and head south to the stunning islands of Okanawa — Japan’s tropical paradise.

How good is this sale?

While it’s not a return-for-free deal, the prices for roundtrip flights are still pretty good.

Return fares are always a bit cheaper than the advertised each-way price, so the $239 price actually equates to just $453 return.

Compared to other airlines, including Virgin Australia, you’ll save about $250 on the Cairns-Tokyo route.

How to book these flights

Head on over to Jetstar’s site or your preferred travel agency. We did do a comparison on Kayak to see if any third parties are offering cheaper fares and found the best price is found when booking direct with Jetstar.

Book by Tuesday, 5 June.

Everything you need to know about Jetstar Japan sales

How often does Jetstar run Japan sales?

These sales tend to run a few times a year. While they don’t have regular set dates like the Jetstar Friday Fare Frenzy sale, we do see Japan fares discounted every couple of months, at least.

Are they always the famous Return For Free deals?

No. While Japan does frequently pop up on Jetstar’s Return For Free roster, not every sale offers this deal. But, that doesn’t mean you won’t get a good price.

Often the Return For Free prices are a big higher to justify the cost of the “free” return fare. So you’ll usually still find traditional flight sales will offer roundtrip flights from Australia in the $400-$500 range.

Where does Jetstar fly in Japan?

Jetstar’s route map to Japan isn’t quite as large as it used to be. You can now only fly to either Tokyo or Osaka from Australia.

If you are wanting to travel beyond those two cities, you’ll need to either hop on a super-fast bullet train or a domestic flight.

Are the Jetstar Japan sales worth it?

Definitely! Compared to other airlines you’ll likely be saving hundreds.

The closest prices you’ll find to a Jetstar sale will likely be from other budget airlines such as Scoot or AirAsia. They’ll fly via either Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, which will add quite a few hours to your journey to Japan.
