Sister airlines Qantas and Jetstar both launched new direct routes to the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.
The Qantas flights to Port Vila, the nation’s capital city, will take off three times a week from Brisbane from 10 September. Meanwhile Jetstar will fly four times per week from Sydney starting 12 December.
Sitting just west of Fiji, the flights to Vanuatu are a little bit shorter and the prices on the island are more than a little bit cheaper.
“We’re excited to be able to offer more Australians great value holiday options to one of our nearest and most beautiful pacific island destinations,” Jetstar Group CEO Stephanie Tully said in a press release.
And getting there certainly is affordable. Jetstar’s pricing starts at just $184 each way.
When are these cheap flights to Vanuatu available?
Since this new Jetstar route to Vanuatu is starting just before the Christmas rush, you will need to wait until after the New Year to get the lowest fares. The $184 flights from Sydney are available for departures from 13 January to 2 April, 2025, and again from 26 April until 12 June.
Unfortunately Qantas isn’t yet discounting its flights from Brisbane. At the moment, they’re selling for $399 each way. (You’re better off flying with Virgin Australia on this route, where you can fly for about $500 return.)

To book the new Jetstar route to Vanuatu, head to the Jetstar website (or any preferred travel agency) before Friday, 28 June to get them for this price. The Qantas flights aren’t part of a limited time sale and can be booked at any time.

This new Jetstar route was on sale just $49 but only for the 24 hours from the announcement, so unfortunately are no longer available at that price. You can still book them though, they’ll just cost you $89.
