Everything to know about a Qantas Red Tail sale

What is a “Red Tail” sale?

A Red Tail sale is Qantas’ name for a flight sale, and can offer pretty significant savings on fares around the world. They tend to feature cheap flights to a selection of cities, often featuring North America and Asia. But we’ve also seen Red Tail sales to cities across New Zealand, too.

How often do they happen?

Popping up sporadically, unlike the Jetstar Friday Fare Frenzy and Virgin Australia Happy Hour sales, there isn’t any schedule that Qantas sticks to with it’s Red Tail sales.

That said, they do happen about once per month and rotate around different destinations. We see Asia and North America as two of the most frequent destinations discounted.

How is a Red Tail sale different to a Red E Deal?

A Qantas Red Tail sale is a limited-time offer further discounting fares from their usual prices and are more targeted to specific destinations or continents.

Red E Deals are sort of like an always-on deal. They show you what the lowest available rates are.

Why should I book a flight with Qantas?

Unlike the other two major Australian airlines, Qantas does offer a full service experience. That means you’ll get to check a bag, use the in-flight entertainment system and get food and drinks during your flight. If you’re a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, you’ll also be able to select your seat for free.
