No one likes surprises… until they come with cheap flights. Luckily, that’s exactly what the Qantas surprise sales do. We’ve seen the airline drop flight prices to as low as $99 each way — but you’ve got to be quick! They only last a few days. Here’s what you need to know about these sales.

Latest Qantas surprise sales

What are Qantas surprise sales?

Over the last few months, Qantas has started running “surprise” sales, alongside the usual Red e-Deals and Fly Away Sales.

When are they?

Well, if we told you, they wouldn’t be much of a surprise now would they?

We’re only kidding!

While they happen relatively frequently, the Qantas surprise sales aren’t regularly scheduled offers like Jetstar’s Friday Fare Frenzy or Virgin Australia’s Happy Hour.

We looked at the last three and they happen roughly every few months. We saw one in October 2023, then February 2024 and April 2024. (We’ll forgive that gap between October and February as we also saw a Black Friday and Christmas sale during that time.)

Where can I go with a surprise sale?

So far, these sales have only included domestic flights. Luckily though, it’s for routes all over the country. Qantas does fly to plenty of regional airports and holiday hotspots, so you’ll have a decent selection of destinations to choose from.

How long do they last?

Like many Qantas sales, these offers last about 72 hours.

Are they for economy or business-class fares?

So far, Qantas has only discounted economy fares during these sales, but that’s not to say it won’t discount business-class fares in future.

Can frequent flyers earn points with these sales?

They sure can! As long as it’s a flight booked with Qantas, you’ll earn frequent flyer points. This is also the case if you book a flight on the Qantas website that’s operated by Jetstar.
