It’s indeed a very happy hour, with Virgin swapping its usual Thursday sale with a Black Friday bargain.
If you’re looking to jet-set to your dream destination without breaking the bank, now’s the time. Virgin Australia’s Black Friday sales for 2023 is coming in hotter than 2022’s, with even lower fares, this time starting at just $45 each way.
Where can you travel with this sale?
Virgin has discounted both domestic and international flights in the sale, with overseas destinations including Bali (from $449), Samoa (from $609), Fiji (from $529), Vanuatu (from $589), Japan (from $679) and New Zealand (from $419).
There’s loads of domestic destinations on sale with Virgin Australia’s Black Friday offer, and here’s a full list of the ones available for less than $100.

How this compares to our predictions for the 2023 Virgin Australia Black Friday sale
We were expecting to see domestic flights from $45 each way, but $49 is pretty close. This price range is about as low as Virgin gets these days, and it recently treated us to The Sale, which had fares starting at $45.
If international flights are also on sale, they’ll probably start from $400-$450 return and include places like New Zealand, Bali, Japan and some South Pacific islands.
When did the Virgin Black Friday sale start?
Black Friday is on 24 November, 2023, but the flight sale actually started on Thursday, 23 November. We did predicted the Black Friday sale would start in time with weekly Thursday Happy Hour sale.
Are Virgin Australia’s Black Friday sales any good?
They are! Especially if you’re a Velocity Frequent Flyer member. Prices are usually a bit higher than Jetstar, but for frequent flyers this may just be worth it. Plus, Virgin generally has more flights available and does fly to a few islands that Jetstar does, including Vanuatu and Samoa.
How do these fares stack up against other flight deals?
Like we mentioned, the Virgin Black Friday sale tends to not be as aggressively priced as Jetstar.
In 2022, Jetstar’s flight prices started at $39 while Virgin’s started at $55. But, since then we’ve seen a few Virgin sales starting at the $45 mark.
If you also want to throw Qantas into the mix, you’ll definitely be saving on the fare, but the flying kangaroo does include extras like food and checked baggage.
How does this compare to previous years’ sales?
We’re expecting this year’s Virgin Black Friday sale to be better than we’ve seen in the last couple years — and we sure hope we’re right!
