Our tips to finding the best Bali travel deals

Know the cheapest time to travel to Bali

You’ll likely find the cheapest bargains to Bali during the wet season from November to March, when sun seekers are less inclined to head to Bali for beach and pool weather. With less demand, prices drop, so you’ll get the best bargains during this time.

While November to March are the rainiest months in Bali, October and March themselves are the driest of the six months of the wet season. Travelling during either of those months (with the exception of years where Easter falls in March), will get you the best bang for your buck with less rain and cheaper prices.

It’s also best to avoid travelling from mid-December to mid-January. Although they’re also in the wet season, it’s also a peak time to travel with the Christmas and New Year’s break closing many businesses and schools.

Keep a calendar of sales for the best time to book a Bali travel deal

Keep an eye out for both big annual sales and travel companies’ regular sales for Bali bargains.

Airlines and hotel booking sites also offer regular sales with Bali deals. Some of our favourites include:

Jetstar’s Friday Fare Frenzy: Every Friday from 12-8pm, but occasionally extended.
Virgin Australia’s Thursday Happy Hour: Every Thursday from 4-11pm, but occasionally extended

The year’s biggest sale days for travel deals are great times to score a deal on flights, hotels and discounted tours and attractions in Bali:

End of financial year: Mid- to late-June.
Black Friday: Fourth Friday in November (Next one: 29 November, 2024)
Boxing Day: 26 December, every year

Book your flight as early as possible

Wondering how far in advance should I book a trip to Bali to get the best price?

Generally, the earlier the better. And if you see a good deal to Bali during a Black Friday, Boxing Day, Friday Fare Frenzy or Happy Hour sale that’s valid for travel when you want to go, snatch it up.

We know this through our own experience and research, but flight aggregator Skyscanner agrees:

In general, flight prices tend to increase the closer you get to your departure date. On routes between major cities, this is often to cater to last-minute business travellers who need to travel on short notice and are willing to pay a premium to do so.

Luckily, Bali isn’t a huge business travel destination for Australians, so if you are booking a last-minute trip, you shouldn’t have to pay an arm and a leg.

Learn what’s considered to be a good price for a Bali flight or hotel

While it’s different for everyone and varies depending on whether you’re happy to fly on a budget airline, what level of accommodation you’re looking for, where it’s located and where you’re coming from. But this rough guide should point you in the right direction for your Bali holiday

Cost of flights to Bali (Denpasar):
  • Perth: $200-$300
  • Adelaide: $250-$350
  • Melbourne: $300-$400
  • Sydney: $300-$400
  • Brisbane: $300-$400

For example, here’s the average price of different airlines that fly to Bali from Sydney based on data from Kayak.

Cost of hotels in Bali:

Stay in the most affordable areas in Bali

Kuta is by far the cheapest place to stay in Bali. It’s also the tourist centre of the island, with a super high concentration of hotels. There’s plenty of dining and nightlife options too.

But while it’s the cheapest, it may not be the best for what you’re looking for. It has a beach, but it isn’t the clear-blue waters you’ll get in destinations like Nusa Dua or Sanur.

If you’re after lush jungle, rice paddy fields and temples, Ubud is your go-to spot. While it isn’t quite as cheap as Kuta, it does still have plenty of budget-friendly places to stay.

On our last visit to Ubud, we stayed at a lovely, small hotel called Nick’s Hidden Cottages here for about $50 per night, including breakfast, that rivalled $100+ rooms we’ve stayed at elsewhere in the world.
